The third of the worldly postures here that the godly should avoid is sitting “in the seat of scoffers.” The Hebrew word for “scoffer” is used throughout the Book of Proverbs to describe a person who is proud, and critical, and who rejects God’s true wisdom. It seems to refer to a proud attitude of skepticism, a kind of opposite to faith. The character and condition, and the present and future destiny, of the pious and the wicked are described and contrasted, teaching that true piety is the source of ultimate happiness, and sin of misery. Verse 3. - Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers. (For the irregular construction of γινώσκοντες, see Winer, , 2, a.)St. Peter has the words, "knowing this first," in 2 Peter , where he is speaking of the interpretation of prophecy; he repeats them now when referring to the scoffers who mocked at the long delay of the Lord's coming foretold by.       Question: "What should we learn from the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31?" Answer: Proverbs is a book based on metaphor. It is packed with word-pictures of universal truths. Throughout Proverbs, wisdom is anthropomorphized as a woman. As early as Proverbs , wisdom is compared to a woman who shouts in the streets, chastising fools and scoffers. The Mindset of Mockers in the Last Days The Bible speaks a lot about scoffers and mockers in the last days, those who question the word because they have departed from the faith. You can call it a transition- transformation- paradigm shift- or the dialectic process at work: it does not matter what term used is, what matters is that it brings.

Question: "What does the Bible say about scoffers?" Answer: The word translated "scoffer" in English can mean "one who mocks, ridicules, or scorns the belief of another." Just like Jesus’ other family. Peter showed that the scoffers had a very low view of God's character because they thought He delayed in keeping His promises just as men do.
